Portside Inn

Fish and Chips with fries and clam chowder soup: The soup came late- I had to ask for it. This is the second time I've been and the service was decent but shoddy a bit (the soup came late; a friend with celiacs asked if there was gluten on the scallops and was told no, but there, in fact, was gluten in the batter they're fried in. The soup itself was a little liquidy, but the crackers that accompanied it helped to thicken it. The taste was good- a little salty but smooth-tasting. The fish is fried nicely in cubes, easy for dipping into their tartar sauce, which has a nice tang. The fish was cooked well and was somewhat succulent. It certainly was not dry in the least. The cost is a bit steep for a Friday only special at $12, but that includes a potato option and soup. The fries I got were a little dense and could use a good seasoning. Ketchup with them was pertinent; otherwise, the flavor they did have would not have been enjoyable. I would try a different potato option next time, but would certainly order the fish again, but probably with the french onion soup. The bar is nautical-themed and has cheap drink specials for happy hour. I do wish they had a larger beer and whiskey selection, but that's personal preference. The restaurant is booming on an early evening on the weekend with a long wait. I enjoyed what little ambiance there was, as it is easy to hear your neighbor, and no too intruding. This isn't a fancy place, but it is quite inviting. Overall, I'd give Portside Inn a 7/10
